Objectives: The purpose of this poster is to highlight how Marshall University School of Pharmacy is working to bolster student success through recruitment, retention, remediation, and wellness.
Methods: Marshall University School of Pharmacy (MUSOP) has taken a multi-modal approach to strengthening student success. Recruitment efforts have included data-driven improvement of admissions processes through the adjustment of scoring tools as well as a renewal of involvement in Marshall University’s Pre-Pharmacy Club. Secondly, MUSOP has worked to improve student retention and remediation efforts. The overhaul of our Grade Watch system, used to identify students upon failure of any major assessment, has been a primary focus. When a student fails an examination, an email alert is shared with the student’s advisor and the student is required to meet with the course coordinator to review exam preparation efforts and identify knowledge gaps. An additional measure of an electronic alert system is also in place. Through this system any faculty or staff member can issue an alert electronically and it is forwarded to appropriate parties. These alerts could be academic or professional in nature. Another change is that each course is required to implement some form of in-course remediation. Lastly, MUSOP has been working to revamp our student wellness initiatives through events such as a walking challenge in February and expansion from mental and physical wellness to other aspects such as financial wellness.
Results: See methods and results
Conclusion: MUSOP is aiming to contribute to the future practice of pharmacy by strengthening student success via a multi-modal approach.
